Warringah Library Service Book Club Collection

If you belong to a Warringah Library BookClub, or would like to start one, ask about our selection of BookClub Kits. These kits contain everything your group needs for a great discussion in one convenient box.

Each BookClub Kit contains 10 copies of the same book and a set of discussion notes. There is a small annual charge and, of course, charges for late, lost or damaged items.

Who can borrow from the book club collection?

Book clubs must be registered with the library to borrow Book Club Kits.  Forms are available at any library or can be downloaded from our website.
Any member of Warringah Library Service can register their book club. Registered members are responsible for the prompt return of Book Club Kits and the payment of any fees and charges. We recommend that at least two members of your group are registered.
Each registered member will be issued with their own Book Club Card. This card must be presented to borrow a kit.

How much does it cost?

There is an annual charge of $25.00 per book club. This fee covers a group for the 12 month period from July 1st to June 30. This fee is non refundable.
There may be additional charges for late, lost or damaged items.

Which Book Club Kits can we borrow?

Your group can borrow any Book Club Kit that is currently available for loan. Follow the link above for a list of the books that are available to borrow now. If a kit is on loan you will need to wait for it to be returned to the library before your group can borrow it.
Available kits can be held at the library of your choice for up to 7 days. Please phone us to arrange this.

Can we go on a waiting list to borrow a Book Club Kit?

No. We do not take reservations on Book Club Kits.

How long can my group borrow the kits?

The kits can be borrowed for 6 weeks. There are no renewals on Book Club Kits.

Can we borrow more than one kit at a time?

Yes. A maximum of 2 kits can be on loan to a group at a time.

How do we return the kits?

The box and all of its contents must be returned together as a complete set to the library during opening hours.

What if we lose or damage a book?

If your group loses or damages a book it must be replaced. Damage includes anything beyond normal wear from reading. You may replace the book with a new copy or pay the replacement cost at any Warringah library. We appreciate it if you resolve these matters as soon as possible so that the kit is ready for the next group.

How does the library select the titles for the Book Club Collection?

The books are selected in collaboration with our book clubs and include both fiction and non-fiction titles. They cater for a wide range of tastes, and include: classics, contemporary fiction, memoirs and books dealing with social, historical and philosophical issues.

Can I suggest new books for the collection?

We encourage groups to suggest new books - please let us know your ideas!

Does the library accept donations of book club books?

We will gladly accept donations. If your Book Club has copies of a previously discussed book that are no longer required, please talk to our staff about donating them to our collection.

How do I join a book club that meets in the library?

People wanting join a book club that meets at one of our libraries can register their interest with us. Groups are self-directed and the form the discussions take is entirely up to the group itself. There may be a waiting period if there are no available groups in your area at the time of your enquiry.

Does the library offer a meeting space for book clubs?

Meeting rooms in the Libraries are limited, and we encourage you as a self-directed group to find a mutually acceptable meeting place for your group. We are happy to offer a space for groups to meet, for a few initial meetings to allow the group to become established.
Please ask us about that next time you are in the library.
